How do you like your coffee?
If you said often. Good news, it is helping you stay healthy. Previous research has linked coffee intake with a lower risk of certain types of cancer and type 2 diabetes, but new research shows that coffee is really good for your guts.
A new, unpublished study has found that regular coffee drinkers have healthier microbiomes than non-coffee drinkers. (Where did they find non-coffee drinkers is what I would like to know?)
People who drank at least two cups of coffee daily had more gut anti-inflammatory bacteria with fewer bacteria linked to metabolic abnormalities and obesity.
Not a coffee drinker?
Don’t worry.
One reason for the increase in good bacteria is the polyphenols and other antioxidants, that are naturally found in plant foods. All plants rich in fiber, polyphenols, and antioxidants help fight disease and keep our guts healthy.
If you love your cup, or two, enjoy it. It is good for you and your gut health.
