3 + reasons not to eat eggs

I spent the weekend with a great group of people this weekend. It was the second Winter Mountain Fit Camp, with cross-country ski lessons, yoga and a plant-based diet. It was a beautiful weekend and we spent time discussing and practising healthy habits.

One nutrition topic that we discussed was eggs. Aren’t eggs supposed to be a great source of protein?

Here are 3 dietary reasons to not eat eggs.

1. Eggs are about 70% fat with about 213 milligrams of cholesterol for a medium-sized egg. Anyone that has diabetes, pre-diabetes, cardiovascular disease or high cholesterol should not consume more than 200 milligrams of cholesterol per day. In fact, we can make our own cholesterol so we don’t, and probably shouldn’t, consume any cholesterol.

2. Eggs and cancer. Research has shown that people who eat 1.5 eggs per week have 5 times the risk of colon cancer compared to people who don’t eat any eggs. Eating eggs is linked to prostate cancer, 2.5 eggs a week increasing a man’s risk by 81%. Even moderate egg consumption triples the risk of bladder cancer. Eggs also increase the risk of rectal cancer.

3. Eggs and diabetes. People who eat the most eggs increase their risk of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes by 68%.

Eggs aren’t that healthy and this short video gives you one more great reason to not eat eggs.
