3 years younger in 8 weeks

It only takes 8 weeks of simple diet and lifestyle changes to reduce biological age by 3 years. A study published last week has provided scientific evidence that lifestyle makes a difference.

The study was small, it only included 43 healthy men between the ages of 50-72 years old. It also included nutritional supplements, which we know are not as effective as getting your nutrients from a whole food source. There were a few other factors that may have reduced the impact, such as including a small amount of animal protein in the diet.

What habits did they practice?

The 8-week study had the participants eat primarily whole foods, plant-based diet with some animal products. The study included time restricted eating with participants only eating between 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM.

They met the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommended minimum amount of exercise of 30 minutes per day 5 days a week at 60-80% effort. The minimum recommended amount is 150 minutes per week.

The participants did two sessions of deep breathing exercises a day to manage stress. Sleep was also a factor with the men sleeping 7 hours per night for 8 weeks.

The habits are easy to do and recognized as basic ingredients for a longer, healthier life. This study adds to previous research that shows that cognitive decline, cardiovascular health and weight management are preventable with a plant-based diet, exercise, sleep, and stress management. This new study shows that you can change the age of your DNA with your lifestyle.
