Paul Sherwen

On Sunday December 2nd, 2018, Paul Sherwen died at age 62.

You may know Paul, if you followed the Tour de France, you would recognize him. Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen were the voices of the Tour for North Americans for years. He was an ex-professional cyclist and commentated on the Tour thirty-three times. He also commentated on cycling for the Olympics as well as many other prestigious bike races including the Tour of California and Tour Down Under.
Here is a brief clip of his views on commentating. https://youtu.be/WtrtEdZB8PI
If you followed cycling, and felt like Paul was part of your cycling season, you probably also had moments when he was commentating on your own brilliant performance.
There is no official word on what happened to Paul, but I do know that often when people talk to me about changing their health and fitness habits they think they have plenty of time.

Unfortunately, that is not always true.

I remember, not that long ago, when people who were sent to me post heart attack were much older. Now, they aren’t, in fact many are younger than me, there are more women. Often they believe they still have plenty of time to change. Almost all of them don’t believe it happened to them.

Every day I see the effects of eating poorly, not exercising, putting off looking after yourself until some magical day when there is more time.

That day isn’t coming.

A recent study from the US shows that only 12% of the population are metabolically healthy.

Metabolic health, is defined as having optimal levels of five health factors without medications.

  1. Normal Blood Glucose
  2. Triglycerides
  3. High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol
  4. Blood Pressure
  5. Waist Circumference of less than 40″ for men and less than 35″ for women.

If you make small changes it can make a big difference. If you lose 5% of your body weight you can improve your heart health, lower your cancer risk, lower your risk of diabetes and sleep better.

5% of 200 pounds is 10 pounds.

There is no better time than now.

Change your mind, change your health
