Lost your words?

Do you find yourself searching for words?

You know that moment when the word you want just isn’t there. Some people think it is due to ageing. In that case, I was born old. Sometimes I joke that English isn’t my first language. If you have ever found yourself at a loss for words, the one that was just there, at the tip of your tongue, don’t worry.

It probably means you need to get more exercise. You knew I was going to say that, didn’t you?

Research published in Scientific Reports has recently proven that cognitive decline is directly related to fitness.

Researcher, Dr Katrien Segaert says,

“Older adults worry that tip of the tongue states indicate serious memory problems, but this is a misconception, it is not associated with memory loss.”

Dr Segaert also reinforces the message that regular exercise is important for healthy ageing.

She is not alone.

I recently read The Alzheimer’s Solution by Drs Dean and Ayesha Sherzai. This husband and wife team of neurologists and researchers have also proven that along with a healthy diet, one that includes black coffee and dark chocolate.

Exercise is critical for brain health. They also reinforce that it is never too early to start looking after your brain. Drs Sherzai emphasize the importance of brain healthy foods, exercise and cognitive exercises, including learning a language.

I think I will start with English… how hard could it be if language skills are related to your fitness level? I can only imagine how bad my communication skills would be if I didn’t exercise.

Change your mind, change your health,

Shayla
